Installation Examples

No installation is too difficult for Santa Cruz Television!

Comments:

This is one of your more standard wall mount installations. The client's wall was made of a typical sheetrock that was very easy to work on and cut into, and there was easy acces to the backside of this particular wall. As you can see in the "during" and "after" images above, we were able to snake the wires from the entertainment center through the wall and to the back of the television set. Take a look at the bundle of wires in Mark's hand on the left of the "during" image. We were playfully calling that the wire bouquet during the installation, as it was quite an arrangement of wires with colorful connectors on the ends!

For this install, the client purchased from us the Samsung PN50A550 model, a 50" 1080p plasma television — a very nice choice for his application, which primarily focuses on sports and movie-watching. Considering his seating distance from the set and the position of the television on the wall, we went with the OmniMount "U3 Tilt" model (also purchased through Santa Cruz Television). Since an articulating mount was not necessary, but a slight tilt was, this was the best model for his living room.

All said and done, the components we installed were: 50" HDTV, DirecTV HD DVR box, DirecTV standard-definition box, 5.1 surround sound stereo, DVD recorder, small form factor PC, and Nintendo Wii. This is one of the more elaborate setups we've completed as far as the number of components within one entertainment center — and we were able to do it without leaving any wires in sight! The client will be updating his DVD player soon to Blu-Ray, so we thought ahead and ran an extra HDMI cable for when that time comes.

Case #2 — Brick Fireplace HDTV Installation:

Comments:

This customer had a challenging application: installing an HDTV on their brick fireplace. Using our expertise and wide variety of tools to get the job done, we were able to install a very nice OmniMount "U3 Tilt" model — the most appropriate for the customer's viewing angle — behind a 46" Vizio LCD HDTV that the customer had purchased elsewhere.

At the time, the customer was using Comcast for their television subscription. No bother; we still were able to provide them with a professional installation that included mounting the cable box (as well as their DVD player) in a cabinet off to the side, which you can see to the left of photo two and three above. As always, we were able to install the entire home theater without showing any wires — even though none of the installed components are wireless!

As you can see, the installation turned out quite nicely in the end. Another first-class installation by Santa Cruz Radio and Television.

Comments:

This customer selected a very nice Sony LCD HDTV. They wanted it installed in their bedroom above their closet doors. This is an abnormal spot for a couple reasons. The first is that this is an exceptionally high mounting position, meaning your viewing distance will need to be pretty great, and the set will need to have a good tilt to it. This is not a problem for Santa Cruz Radio and Television. Another reason this is a more unusual spot is that you simply don't see this very often. Bedroom wall mounts? Sure, but usually not above a closet. Check out the last two pictures for a great demonstration of how nice HD programming looks through an HDTV. There's nothing quite like it!

Regardless of the mounting location of this set, all we needed to do was equip ourselves with a ladder, and the installation was business as usual.

Comments:

Something you don't see often: a television set mounted outside! This customer wanted something very different and fun, and as such they decided to get crazy and get an HDTV mounted on the outside of their house. Santa Cruz Television selected a nice OmniMount articulating mount for this application. This allowed the set to be swiveled and stored under the awning when not in use — shielding it from the weather elements and hopefully prolonging its lifespan.

For this particulat install, we tapped into their existing DirecTV feed and ran a connection to this set. They used a radio-frequency (RF) remote to control their inside DirecTV box from the outside. A standard infrared (IR) remote would not work for this application due to the distance from and barriers (i.e. walls) in the way from the outside of the house to the set-top box.

Comments:

For this install, the customer had a limited amount of space, but wanted the popular wall mount installation. They selected a relatively smaller (32" diagonal measurement) Samsung HDTV to fit into their tight spot. Santa Cruz Television helped them decide the height of the install and the mounting bracket. This particular bracket, as seen in photo two, is a nice choice for an area where you might want to watch the television from a variety of angles in relation to the set. With the articulating style bracket, you can swing the television out from the wall, and position it nearly 180 degrees' worth of swivel. You'll see this a lot in rooms where the user will be seated at an angle in relation to the wall where the set is mounted (i.e. not "straight on" to the set).

All in all, a pretty simple install. Just another example of how we can help you determine the right set and mounting technique for your space.

Case #6 — Indoor HDTV with Indoor/Outdoor Home Theater

Comments:

In one of our most unique installs, this customer wanted an HDTV mounted fairly typically on the inside, including a home theater package. What makes this application different from most others is that in addition to the interior home theater, this customer decided that it would be a nice touch if they could route speakers to the outside of their home so they could listen to their tunes or the game while hanging out outside. As you can see in the images above, this installation involved many steps, but in the end it was a pretty simple install — we just needed to route more wires than usual to accommodate the outdoor speakers. This was one of our more memorable installs due to its uniqueness.
